I would not trade my four years at Earlham for anything. I have worked in higher education administration ever since graduation (although never at EC) and feel the experiences I gathered at EC are unique and rewarding. Having previously worked at two other small liberal arts institutions and currently at a major state institution, I can testify that the education offered at Earlham is outstanding. I was challenged each and every day I walked into the classroom. Having known little of quakerism before I entered and a whole lot when I exited, I am pround of the values that the EC community imparted in me. In the work place I use the concept of consensus on almost daily basis and believe me my co-workers get tired of hearing that term! Students at EC do not just go to class, they engage learning from the coffeshop to the dining hall to the community houses. At the institutions I have been affiliated with, while they attempted to promote their reputation, they did not even compare to EC in the number of educational and cultural opportunities offered. The students were inquisitive and unique. Everyone had their own "story" and personality that made talks during Sunday night "study break" entertaining. The faculty were engaging, supportive and compassionate. I will never forget the dinners at Len Clark's house or how my senior seminar met in Tony Bing's living room. Having worked with thousands of prospective college students now, I can tell you that selecting a college is a very personal decision. Opinions from college guides and surveys mean very little. Remember, people who feel the need to post their opinions are typically at the extreme ends of the spectrum of opinions. The typical student anywhere has had a very rewarding experience that they would not trade, but they may have some level of dissatisfaction. At any school you have happy students and disgruntled students, but only you will know if a school is a right fit for you. Visit the campus, get a feel for the community and soak up the buzz. The decision is yours
