I had four great years at the University of Virginia. I studied both Economics, in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Computer Science, in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Professors in both disciplines were approachable. Most were excellent teachers. The material was challenging and stimulating. Undergraduate research and work opportunities existed in the Computer Science Dept. Academically, my biggest complaint would be the size of introductory lectures. These classes tend to have several hundred students. Thankfully, most of these classes also had supplementary discussion or laboratory sections. Of course, this is a problem at most large universities. Socailly, the University has lots to offer. Although the Greek organizations are popular, they are by no means the only social outlet. Intramural and club sports are quite popular. Many popular clubs maintain unofficial residences and host frequent gatherings. Charlottesville and University have several art galleries, theaters, and other similar activities. I only wish I could go back for another couple of years.
