Ok, where do I start? If I had had the proper foresight I would have transferred the day I arrived. First, if you are not lucky enough to be placed in a semi-social dorm, you're screwed from the beginning. The antisocial atmosphere at Northwestern sucks you in and then sucks the life out of you. Then there is the sorry excuse for Greek life....a bunch of wannabe ivy leaguers pretending they belong to a Big Ten school. And then there's the dating scene, or lack thereof. You will find one of three guys as a student at Northwestern: 1) someone who is so antisocial he has probably never spoken to someone of the opposite sex, 2) someone who is not even attracted to the opposite sex, or 3) some tool of a guy who's majoring in econ, plans to become and investment banker and has nothing interesting to say besides "dude, i'm sooo wasted". But enough about the social scene. The university's primary function is as a place of academia. Well, Northwestern seems to be stuck somewhere in between a small liberal arts college and a huge state school. While it claims to have the reputation comparable to the former, the feeling of being a faceless name in the crowd corresponds more to the latter. With a positive degree of certainty, I can say that not ONE professor would ever recall that I attended his/her lecture for an hour a day for nine weeks. And it wasn't as if I am shy. The only two redeeming qualities I can find in the university at which I wasted for years of my precious youth are 1) the opportunity to see a bunch of brilliantly talented performers before they hit it big and 2) the proximity to one of the greates cities in the world.
