My original college plans were to attend the University of Texas at Austin. However, a monetary set back led to the change of plans that landed me here at the Univesity of Houston, and for that I consider myself the luckiest man in the world. An excellent campus environment compliments the surrounding city perfectly (I never realized how much stuff there was to do here). The faculty here are very knowledgable and helpful, by chance I've met 2 of my first semester professors off campus, and they carry the same delightful demeanor as they display in the classroom. The dorms here are comprised of 3 types of living. The Moody Towers; a set of 20 or so story buildings on the SouthWest corner of campus. The towers are a very cramped place to live, however, the social atmosphere is the best of that around campus, and the best food court is also located there. Second, the Quadrangle; a set of five 4 story buildings directly across from the Towers on the NorthWest corner of campus. The Quad dorms are much more spaced out than the towers (rooms are almost twice as big), however, this hurts the friendly atmosphere that the Towers enjoys. Third, Cullen Oaks; an off-campus (but VERY close, walking distance) apartment complex. A bit more expensive than the Quad, but highly worth it. Even freshman are allowed to live there and I would recommened it to anyone with a pocket deep enough. UH sometimes gets a bad rap because of it's suffering atheletics program. Most people have forgetten that UH was a serious national contender in most colliegate sports in the late 80's and early 90's. I feel confident that the university's atheletic reputation will be restored in the coming years. Even with that said, the educational quality is what really drives (or should drive) the enrollment of any student, and UH is barnone the best kept secret in Texas for your secondary education.
