The University of Washington - Seattle

UWash-Seattle says:
One reason we do not provide avg test score or GPA statistics to this website or any other is that students often think of these as minimums. Although a large public flagship university with over 15,000 applicants each fall, the UW prides itself in using required essays and other additional information in a comprehensive review process that allows to consider students much like a typical small college might. No, we can't admit everyone, but we admit a lot of students with great potential, not just great transcripts.

I was the valedictorian, had an 800 MathAug 09 2023Computer Science
I was the valedictorian, had an 800 Math SAT, the two year leader of my high school's programming club, and was several years ahead in math (I had completed multivariate calculus and linear algebra at a community college when I applied). My resume after graduating was honestly worse, and I struggled to find a job. Seriously, if interested in CS go to another college or apply to an apprenticeship program.

Because of the overwhelming number of applicants they receive,Nov 01 2016Chemistry
Because of the overwhelming number of applicants they receive, 48,000 in this year of 2016 alone they follow a very general system.

Imagine a grid system, with G.P.A on the bottom x axis (with increments of say 0.1 ticks, min is 0.0 and max is 4.0), and on the left y axis side with SAT and ACT scores. The question you need to ask yourself is where are you on that plot? This is a pretty common screening technique that many colleges use to weed out candidates. The cutoff (threshold) can vary from school to school and from year to year. I find that a super high G.P.A with an average SAT/ACT score will get you in. It is only when you are that threshold when they will start to consider your extra-curriculars, community service, etc.

So obviously, if you have a 4.0 and have a perfect SAT/ACT then you're in, no joke. UW is not Harvard yet in rejecting "perfect" individuals. But that still doesn't mean that you can slack senior year or blow off extra-curriculars. I mean as long as you're a very good student and do some stuff in your free time to make you look well rounded, then you should be set.
