I took all of the highest levels of coursesDec 22 2017PreMed and Medical
I took all of the highest levels of courses offered by my school (IB Diploma program) and maintained a B average. I had one big extracurricular activity that I could talk about and use to market myself, while keeping just one or two minor activities (like sports). I think what mainly got me into this University was that I always singed up for the highest level of whatever was offered. Just go for the hardest and take it. If you at least do that, getting a 4.0 or trying to have perfect grades will not matter as much; I definitely did not and even got a couple C's in high school.

UMD has gotten more competitive over the years. Good grades or good athletics are primarily what get you in now.

I had to write a couple essays and neededJun 21 2011Criminal
I had to write a couple essays and needed two teacher recommendations, take the SAT and show off whatever other extracurriculars I had. Be creative in your writing(they want to see something that stands out), have a decently high GPA and don't bomb your SAT, and you have a pretty good chance.

Take a tour before you decide on going here, even after doing that my first few weeks were crazy because I spent so much time looking for each building (and then the rooms inside each building).

If you want to go to Maryland, make sureJul 13 2010Anthropology
If you want to go to Maryland, make sure you follow the directions on the application. Do not go above and beyond and send a video of yourself or anything creative like that. Just write an essay that states why you want to go to Maryland, what you can contribute, what your experiences have prepared you for, things like that. Also, take a lot of AP and Honors courses, do well on your SAT (I had above a 2100), etc. I got into Maryland a month after I applied early decision. My grades in high school were 3.78+, I played tennis, I had a lot of honors, etc. So, if you do that and more, you can probably get in! Also, If you are an out of state student, you have a better chance of getting in because of your out of state money. It has NOTHING to do with who you are, so don't get excited. ;-)
