I took initiative in high school to do thingsAug 11 2004Religion/Religious
I took initiative in high school to do things that others did not. I was a reporter for a regional newspaper for four years, I taught chess courses at an after-school program for little kids and I started a program at the high school that allowed honor roll students to get discounts at local restaurants. I did some other stuff like this that I don't have time to list out. I think Brown wanted me because I seemed like someone who would take advantage of the Open Curriculum. Several of my classmates at Brown had demonstrated similar kinds of initiative in their own high schools.

Brown is a school that looks for individualityAug 10 2004Sociology
Brown is a school that looks for individuality. The admissions office definately wants to hear your story. That is not to say that you have to have "saved the world" by your senior year of High School. It is to say that your extracurricular accomplishments and the things about which you are passionate, no matter how mundane they may seem, should be highlighted in your app..

I talked a lot about my internships in finance, my High-School debate career, but also about collecting comics as a kid. Keep things interesting for the admissions office, and show them that you're more than a GPA/SAT score.

Major accomplishments like published work or patents help.

Most of my friends at Brown really got into their application essay. Put your heart into it and be honest. This is not one where bullshit will take you very far.
SAT: 1350 Female

I had a good interview with someone I enjoyedJul 02 2004Psychology
I had a good interview with someone I enjoyed talking to (and of course filled out the app and worked hard in HS). I recommend souding genuinely enthusiastic and having specific questions to ask during the interview and being open to looking into all the possibilities that you'd encounter at Brown.
I was very much involved in extracurriculars in highJun 25 2004History/Histories (art history/etc.)
I was very much involved in extracurriculars in high school. Talking to fellow Brunonians, I found that everyone else was just as involved in extracurriculars if not more involved in high school. Also everyone seems to have been a varsity athlete in high school also.
