I cannot recommend American University to anyoneOct 01 2024Math
I cannot recommend American University to anyone. The culture is dead and the faculty are uninspiring. I am actively looking at transfer options, and of the staff at the university are equally unhelpful with supporting my desire to transfer

To get into American I participated in and wasMar 24 2019Political Science
To get into American I participated in and was chair of a number of extra curricular activities. Having higher grades and good test scores is practically a necessity because American does not have a host of sports teams students can get in on. American is also interesting because they care a lot about demonstrated interest in the school so, they will document if you visit campus on a tour. Learning who your admissions counselor is at American and reaching out is also a good idea. In my case, American offered interviews in my area to get to know students better and inform prospective students if they had any questions.

I would highly recommend applying Early Decision because American offers a fall deadline for ED1 in November and then a winter deadline for ED2 in January. Early Decision is a binding agreement but, when I applied ED2 I knew I wanted to go and the acceptance rates are higher for ED students because, to the university, they are guaranteed enrollments.

AU's admissions rate is artificially low because so manyFeb 20 2018Political Science
AU's admissions rate is artificially low because so many people are applying, but it's not as rigorous a school as others with similarly low acceptance rates might be. I'd recommend doing an overnight visit where you spend a night in a current student's dorm, because it shows AU that you're interested and you can get a good idea of how on-campus living is. But be warned, such a visit will be highly curated. You won't be allowed to do much exploring on your own, if any. It's really more to make yourself look good in AU's eyes than it is for you to learn about how AU truly is. Good luck!
