The University of Wisconsin - Madison

After reading some of the negative comments about UW-Madison, I was upset. First of all, although there are some snotty East-coasters at this school, not every one of them is like this. In addition, every student is never going to be friendly at any university. Secondly, after going to the UW, and talking to friends that go to other UW systems, I do think our school has a much more difficult agenda and harder coursework than the others. This is why we are known as such a good school. I never percieve our campus to be stuck up just because of this reason! Third, to say our campus is not diverse is like saying the sky is green! There is every type of person here - the athlete, the "nerd", the partier, the skater, the foreigner, etc. The great thing is that all these different types of people are continually intermeshing and new groups of friends are being formed. Everyone hangs out with everyone - you can choose any type of person you want to be and still fit in here. Although there is a smaller percent of African American students, I don't believe that they are all segregated (as one of the other reviews stated). I (being caucasian) had numerous African American friends. Lastly, there are endless opportunities here, from traveling abroad to the course offerings. I couldn't imagine a better college experience. In addition - you haven't had fun until you've been to a Badger athletic event! Football games are a must!!! On Wisconsin!P.S. The social life is AWESOME!!!!! And if you don't like to drink, there is cafes, live music, or other organizations always available to have a good time at :)

I love Madison. I had a great Freshman year. I am from the East Coast and graduated from a small high school. I chose Madison because of its academic reputation and I wanted to experiance a big school. Education level is good, great course choices. Some of my courses were big and in some most TA's were good. Overall the profesoors,(with one exception) were really good and accessible. I lived in a Wis Dorm rather than a private dorm last year. Great experiance because I met kids from all over and with great diversity of backgrounds. I reccomend living in Wis dorms rather than private dorms. More diversity. Social life is never boring. I am not a sports buff but love to go to Big Ten games. Football, basketball and hockey are awesome. Be sure and buy football tickets even if you are not a fan because the games are really fun. Negative is that it is cold! But the good far outweighs the bad.
