Professors are accomodating and a very helpful resourceAverageNuclear Engineering
Professors are accomodating and a very helpful resource in your academic endeavors. There is a reason UW-Madison was ranked Playboy's #1 party school and that Madison is consistantly ranked in the top 10 cities to live. Varsity sports are great and every game is competative. There are numerous intramurals and the gyms are above average. Course work is related to what you are learning and, in the engineering department, is design focused. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with the math department; in 4 courses, I only had one professor who's primary language was English. UW is definately a research university and as such has good labs. Some section of the University is always under construction, buildings are always being improved.

Question
I was concerned about UW being so big--andSuper BrilliantGeography and Geosciences
I was concerned about UW being so big--and not having any sense of community, or the security that might come from a smaller school. Now, yes, some of the basic lectures you attend freshman year might be huge--200 students, but then these are broken down to subclasses of 15 that you meet at least weekly for direct discussion. As you get into more advanced classes and especially in your major, you will find class size getting smaller, last year (Junior) I had two classes with less than 10 students. Awesome learning experience! Madison is cold in winter-- but beautiful all year round. Plenty of great arts, plays, concerts, the best in sporting events and nightlife if you want. Wide, diverse and eclectic people make for always an interesting time.

This school perfectly balanced between living in aQuite BrightOther
This school perfectly balanced between living in a city and the constant surroundings of trees and the beautiful lakes! There is always someone going on at State Street, for example protests, singers, dancers, parades, parties, concerts, artists, the aroma of every cuisine possible and abundance of people! People everywhere. This school is HUGE, which means there are many people here to help you, all you need to do is ASK. There are so many faculty members that are hired to help you and give you the attention you deserve. Just look them up and make an appoitment. There are people who will help write your resume, edit your papers, show you around campus, sit down at a coffee shop and brainstorm methods of studying. There are so many oppurtunities available! Work hard and Party harder. Enjoy!
