One of the best Graphic Design programs in the country at state school prices. Not quite Yale, but in the running.

Question
I have just completed my first year atQuite BrightCommunications
I have just completed my first year at VCU... and I must say that I feel as though I have learned NOTHING. Basically the coursework is not very challenging at all, and other classmates don't even do thier work.

There is nothing to look at around campus either, very grimy, dirty, and too many homeless men coming up to me and asking for my name or for some money.

The greek life sucks, they will tell you otherwise. But they basically try to boast themselves up, even though they are really pathetic.

Campus life is okay if you like thinking of activites to do on your own, because THIS IS NOT A PARTY SCHOOL. I am a huge partier and i love meeting new people. Basically the parties hear consist of knowing someone who owns a house, who is 21, and knowing the clique they hang out with. You can only party if you're friends with them, and if you are part of thier clique (which is like 5 people) so that's not partying.

I was walking one day, and a guy ran up to me asking if I had cell phone becuause he just got robbed at gunpoint. Then on my last week during finals there was a shooting right outside of my dorms at the Landmark Theater. PLEASE PLEASE dont go to school if you like to party, and you love beautiful scenery and feeling safe.

Question
I feel that VCU as a school isBrightArt & Design Department
I feel that VCU as a school is very good. The only problem is that I feel I might have picked the wrong major. Art school is great here, but it definitely depends on the major. I am currently a Painting and Printmaking Major, and the experience has been varied. Most of the printmaking teacher are knowledgeable, understanding, and very supportive. I have yet to have a problem with a printmaking teacher. It's when you get a painting teacher that there are problems. I've had maybe a 50/50 break in good to bad painting teachers. Many teachers will be incredibly harsh to a student for no good reason (to "prepare you" for the art world... bull.) The good teachers will look at a piece and tell you what you need to fix to improve.

I'm planning on switching to Information systems, mainly because I think I'm very much done with art. What I found (in my case at least) was that taking these classes were making my art into something that was at many times tedious and repetitive. I would not however turn back time, as I have learned quite a bit from my experiences, and done more art in 3 years than in my entire life.I also have no idea what the people complaining about anti social people are about. With such a huge student body, it's fairly easy to find a group to hang out with. I have a good group of close friends that I hang out with nearly every other day. There are definitely multitudes of shallow ignorant people, but it's not very hard to find a good group. There's a great range of diversity in the kinds of people here.
