Here's some genuine advice:

UH is primarily a commuter school, which means there is no where near the school spirit as your typical state University. On the plus side, the science/engineering/math programs are at an excellent value. Many professors come from top 10 Universities, are involved in novel research and are pretty good lecturers. On the not so plus side, some of the facilities are a little dated, but the University is working to get itself up to date.

Other worthy departments: Hotel & Resturaunt Mgmt, Architecture, Creative writing, business school (MBA only) and music performance. The school of Music molds some really impressive musicians!!

Safety: This is a real concern at UH. Cars get vandalized from time to time and there are reports of robbery/assault. There's not too much UH can do about this, since its located in the 3rd ward. What you can do is be aware of your surroundings and follow general safety advice.

Housing: Your best bet is to look off campus.Entertainment: Houston has diverse cultural influences. Find your interest and get at it.

Question
I've always sworn that if I could sueMusic - Performance
I've always sworn that if I could sue for my tuition money back, I would do so. Hind sight always being 20/20 I realize I should have quit this school and looked elsewhere - even losing a whole year of study would haven been worth it to attend a program with a better focus on their students, instead of the cosmetic and superficial appearance of the school at large (why pray tell do they have 2 MILLION dollars of art on a ceiling, and lack luster professors?) The building is indeed beautiful. It's just such a shame that what went on INSIDE of it when I was there was so disappointing. I've heard that things are turing around with a newer Dean, but they have got a LOT of work to do to regain confindence in their program from me. Honestly, I list this degree just as proof I completed something - but in all reality, I'm still embarrased by it. Fortunately, I attended a very strong undergraduate program in the midwest that to this day contributes to what am doing. I feel badly for UofH students who don't have that kind of background, for they're unlikely to get anything remotely like that from this school.

Question
Good:AveragePsychology
Good:
UofH is an extremely large and diverse place. This causes many opportunities for the 'right fit' within social groups.

Bad:
1.)The location (central) is within the worst part of houston. 2.)Not all professors abide by the grading system. This results in an inaccurate gpa score.
