The University of Houston is actually WORSE thanQuite BrightEnglish
The University of Houston is actually WORSE than attending a practical (and less expensive) two-year college. If your high school record is less than impressive (which mine is), but you feel you deserve a second shot because you're somewhat brilliant (but have a rebellious past), do some facework at an inexpensive community college, do community service and charity work, and then transfer to a school of merit.

I wish I would have done that; I have to START ALL OVER. A UH student gains a UH reputation - easy, unintelligent, low standards. The University of Houston has a reputation for being a RIDICULOUS and INFLATED institution. Their international students TEACH THE CLASSES, and the school seeks to mutilate your GPA through busywork to make it *seem* challenging. Most students drop out or transfer. (Good luck transferring with UH next to your name, by the way.)

The Financial Aid office dropped me from my classes 3 times one semester, charged me for a class I didn't even register for, and when I could no longer afford UH, THEY STILL GAVE ME Fs, EVEN WHILE WITHDRAWN.

I spent over $200 on ECONOMY parking, ran my car into the ground commuting 50 miles total every day, spent over $400 per semester on substandard books, and participated in the Honors Program full of untalented, vapid, and overconfident students who were less than intelligent.

The Human Situation class was about the only good experience I had at UH. I met few truly gifted people in the program that ended up transferring to NYU, Rice, UT, A&M, Carnegie Mellon, etc. Honors College professors, although brilliant, are not treated fairly or paid enough because UH spends their money on propaganda and sports.

And the students are trashy, trashy, trashy. Ghetto, image-absorbed, vapid, vain, loud, obnoxious, dreadfully misinformed, unintelligent, low-brow. I met about 4 bright students there. The rest are G-Unit, cliquey rejects. If you MUST go to college in Houston, go to Rice or a community college. Otherwise, I recommend taking real risks away from home for the sake of your future than attending this JOKE of an institution.

Question
I came to UH mainly because I wantedQuite BrightPsychology
I came to UH mainly because I wanted to live close to my family and other major Texas universities didn't appeal to me so much. However, if I could do it all over again, I would go to UT or Texas Tech or Texas State. But I'm not going to transfer because I met my boyfriend here and have already established friends and am almost done with my degree requirements so...I have one MAJOR complaint against the university-the financial aid department. I have never come into contact with such an unfriendly, incompetent, half-assed staff as these people. Seriously, the people who work at the DMV are more efficient and friendly than these idiots. I have had problems with my financial aid every single year. Three weeks into the spring semester, I still have not received my financial aid. I have called three times and they say they are "working on it" but I find that extremely doubtful. You really have to get on their asses if you want anything processed in, at best, a slow and lengthy time. That's what you get for going to a Tier 4 university-crappy student service and staff who don't care about the students. Honestly, the quality of the financial aid office has affected my view of the university which aside from that, is not so bad. The food could use some improvement as well as the staff who works at the Moody Towers cafeteria. They act as if they're doing you a huge favor by serving you food. Major attitude problems and probably some inferiority complexes going on there as well. Other than that, if you want a cheap university close to the city, then this is the place for you.

Question
As with many at UH, I had originallyQuite BrightHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
As with many at UH, I had originally planned on attending UT-Austin. Once again, as with many, my grades were not stellar enough to get me in. UH was surprising for me, how enjoyable my time has been here. I joined the Honors college, and I do not regret it at all. Much smaller classes, more individualized, but correspondingly harder. The only class so far that to me had too much pointless busy work was college algebra. We have attendance grades, and homework due almost every day. But, that is balanced out by the fact that we can schedule our own tests around our schedule. The way each class is taught is based on how the instructor wants it to be taught. This is a good thing (religion classes, history classes, honors classes) or a bad thing (world civilization to 1450). I am currently living in the Quadrangle, which I really enjoy. Well, enjoy as much as one can enjoy living in a dorm. The rooms are quite large and well maintained. Plus, the food hall in the Quad has a huge tv, and better food. Just get there before 8, because after then the only food out is pizza and hamburgers.

One of my favorite parts about campus is the fact that many people who attend are not fresh out of high school kids. There are many people who are going back for a second degree, or in their 20's or 30's getting their first degree. Older people come in for classes in their spare time, and guest lecturers come in constantly.

There are bad points to the university, namely its location. To live off campus you have to live 5+ minutes away, because you do not want to live in 3rd ward. There are constant sirens, and occasionally a car is stolen or broken into in the economy lots. A friends car was stolen and stripped of its aftermarket parts, and someone dumped a smashed up car in the lot last semester, and it is still there. Also, there are constantly cars and golf carts moving along campus and driving on grass, ripping it up. Its not fun to dodge them all the time. I also had a delivery truck almost back into me one day. Overall, I do recommend UH. It is a well respected school outside of Houston, with great staff and great oppourtunities for anyone who attends and takes school seriously.
