This school is NOTORIOUS for screwing people over. Every semester I have had with them has been a huge ordeal and hassle to get anything done correctly, on time, and without constant pestering. If you are not on top of every aspect of your college career this is NOT the university for you! You basically pay administrative fees to take care of your own files, financial aid, and other assorted paperwork because the staff are unhelpful, rude, and inept at their jobs. This semester the administration deemed it appropriate to mass rearrange class meeting times for a large number of students and notify us by email only a week before the start of the course. A phone call would have been more appropriate given the situation, as their email system has many flaws. You CANNOT just change everyone's schedule and expect us to have no problem with it. I believe the best quality about UH is it's consistency- how they consistently manage to demean, neglect, and irritate nearly every student that attends. I do not know a single person who hasn't experienced an administrative issue with this university and I advise anyone I come into contact with NOT to attend. The only reason I am still here is because it is one of only two universities in the state that offer my specific major and I cannot afford three times the tuition to attend UT. I could go on and on, really.

Question
Right off the bat I noticed so manyQuite BrightAccounting
Right off the bat I noticed so many negative comments, but why? As I read further, a fellow cougar pointed out something out, those negative comments came from those individuals that chose UH as a "last resort"...

I was accepted into UT-Austin, Baylor, Wake Forest, Duke, and UH. Of those I chose UH. At first I was extremely hesitant because of the negative stigma it has received (like review sites such as this), but it is one of the best decisions ive made in life.

The Goods...
-UH compared to other in state schools in considerably cheaper, even with the poor state funding we receive compared to that of UT and A&M.

-Most diverse campus in the nation!
-By living in Houston you have many opportunities open to you. (Internships, Jobs, etc.)
-Peers are down to earth and extremely friendly. Very few individuals with that silver spoon mentality. Majority of the students work and are fulltime students.

-Professors are well educated, most of which are leagues above other universities.
The Bads...
-Poor campus life! 98% of UH commute. Granted clubs, organizations, and events to attend/join are plentiful, a high percentage of students work and attend UH fulltime. UH could do a better job advertising these though. But with the "Masterplan" underway hopefully this helps.

-Our sports department. They work hard, but not much gets done without UT and A&M funding.
-From my experience, the counselors at the business school aren’t very good. I received better advice from friends that have taken classes or just by following how quick certain classes fill up.

-Needs to do a better job to stop dishonest students (cheaters).
Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
