I am a construction management major and INot so brightOther
I am a construction management major and I am in my second year at UH. I am apart of the Honors College and so far have had a great experience at the University of Houston. The Honors College helps you meet a lot of people and for me has given my college experience a different touch than what I thought it would be. My classes are smaller but I still get to be apart of a large school and go to class on a beautiful campus. The honors college not only introduces you to people but allows you to make friends because a lot of honors students hang out in the lounge, which allows for an open environment to discuss, do hw, tell jokes, and just relax. Every professor I have had from the Honors College has be exceptional and always willing to help. The Honors classes are more challenging and cause you to be surrounded by people that have a greater desire to learn and better themselves. I have had some normal university classes and they for the most part have went well. I had one TA for my chemistry lab that didn't speak english well, but after a week or so I could understand his accent and after that everything went smooth. I haven't met a professor I didn't like and my basic core classes have actually been interesting. The best part about the core classes I have taken is that they weren't with 4,000 other kids in the same room like at some of the much bigger schools. For the most part UH is a great school and has the resources here to offer anyone a great education. University of Houston has its quarks just like A&M and Texas do, but academically it's on the same level as those two schools and on some aspects might be better. UH isn't as selective as the other schools, but there are still a lot of people that attend that have brilliant minds and are interesting to meet and talk to. UH has a lot to offer and is a fantastic school, no its not perfect, but what school is?

Question
Financial aid department is a nightmare. Not so brightEnglish
Financial aid department is a nightmare. After an hour and a half of waiting to talk to an advisor they will rush you through in two minutes and usually either don't know how to answer your questions or, my favorite, lie to you outright. Once I had to wait more than three weeks for them to disburse my financial aid, came back every week. They just kept telling me "come back next week! It will be done then". If it was going to be done, why was it they wanted me to come back? I hate this school. I wish I had gone somewhere else. It is no wonder no one donates to the university after graduation. Also, parking is inadequate. They charge you to park so that they can pay the jerks ridding around giving tickets. Its totally pointless. They have plenty of parking for staff close to the school. They are usually two thirds empty but if you park there BAM! ticket! Don't go to UH. The bureaucracy has gotten out of control. Everything is overly complicated and no one working there gives a flying f****.

Question
Before I came to the University of Houston,BrightFinance
Before I came to the University of Houston, I wasted two years at Texas A&M. I must say, after one year at this school, im loving it. The classes are challenging, the school offers so many things, and the people are amazing.

Im on a specific Finance trac and let me tell you, these classes are much more stimulating than any class I took at A&M.

The only downer is the amount of involvement from students. I understand that many students are commuters, as am I, but i just wish they made an effort supporting this school (ie. sports). As a football fanatic, the games at A&M were amazing because of the sheer number of people and the traditions. UH on the other hand has tradition but lacks students support.

People here are very down to earth. There are those few with obvious identity crises, but majority are fine people. What I enjoy most in classes are group projects, because this help show how dynamically crated this school is in its diversity.

From what I understand, your experience here is what you make of it. If you expect to be a hermit crab and rarely leave your shell then you'll hate it at UH. You have to be willing to socialize with others, and majority are accepting of it. At A&M, the people only kept to their racial cliques.

Earlier I read a review that claimed UH has alot of racial tension and A&M doesnt... Im sorry, but are you sure you've attended both schools like I have? There are cliques here, but not to the severity at A&M.GO COOGs!
