Nothing to do in this small town, butQuite Bright
Nothing to do in this small town, but drink. EVERYTHING costs money! All food on campus is over priced fast food. Jack-in-the box across the street is cheaper and tastes better. The tutoring center sucks. The tutors are all students in class with you! I've been given wrong answers multiple times. Too many TA's teaching classes, classes that I'm being charged full price for. Professors are average at best. Everyone in the math dept. is Indian and barely speaks english. If you're going to school in TX, go to A&M. You've been warned!!

Question
First of all, I want to start offBrightArchitecture
First of all, I want to start off by saying that I am a parent of a Texas Tech Student. The school is surrounded by a ghetto neighborhood with half way houses. If you go across the street of Tech, panhandlers will ask you for money. When you go to gas stations to fill up your car, the panhandlers will all surround you and ask for money. A panhandler once got into the back seat of my daughter's car, and she had to tell him to get out. When my daughter parked her car across the street, her window was smashed. It cost nearly $200 to fix. When ever you go to local stores they are filled with gang members. If you want to go to a decent store, they are far away from the campus. The math teachers barely speak english. My daughter got a 60 on her math test, and that was one of the highest grades in the class if that tells you anything. No one in the class understands what is going on. The Math dept. never lists what teachers are going to be teaching the class when signing up for classes. Tutoring is a joke at the school. There are hundreds of students that show up for tutoring. You get in line and ask a question, so you get to ask maybe 2 questions during the tutoring. We have had to pay for our own tutoring for our daughter which costs us $10 per hour. The city has a law to where you can't rent a house with your friends to share expenses. So you are stuck with having to pay high apartment fees. All I can say is good luck if you plan on going to Texas Tech, and you may want to take self defense classes.

Question
The school is pretty bad (at least toAverageEngineering Department
The school is pretty bad (at least to me)! Everything sucks (sport, academic, ...)! I am overcharged for everything. Two things I hated most are the international student insurance and library fee. I have to pay for unnecessary dumb insurance for nothing (almost 1500$/year, can you believe that?) which I am not qualified to be waived or chosen different insurance companies outside of Tech. My friends only pay 600$/year when he goes to UTD. Next is the library fee, 350$/sem and you dont get free for printing! What the hell is that? So 350$ for using computer which the students have their own laptop, scanning, borrowing books. That's about it!

The food here sucks too! I used to go to the University of Arkansas. They have 3 cafeterias which you only need to pay around 7-8 bucks and get the whole meals (every kinds of food, just like buffet). But in Texas Tech, everything is like in the mall's food court.
