Positive Negative Neutral Advice

First of all...there are a lot of stereotypical ideas regarding Tech. "The students aren't as bright as the other big schools, Lubbock is in the middle of nowhere, people that go here are the ones who didn't get accepted to UT and A&M."

Personally, I got accepted by the CAP program at UT but decided to defer and go elsewhere. Tech might not have the same high admissions standards as other schools, but it gives the underdogs a chance. It is true that there is a large population of jocks and people who are clueless, but there are also a lot of people who do truly care about their academics and try extremely hard (even if they are not that academically gifted).

Professors are pretty good in the Econ dept. and overall..although you will get your fair share that don't speak English very well. As far as personal attention, you have to seek them out. Most are available to consult with you during their office hours. Establishing a personal relationship with your prof or TA I would say is very crucial to your success. To repeat a cliche, you will get out what you put in.

As far as Lubbock goes, I was born in the DFW area so I had my doubts about moving to a smaller city. While it is peaceful, it can be pretty boring sometimes. Thanks to Tech, the city is developing however, and it is starting to look like a big suburb more than a run-down old Texas town. My advice would be to at least apply to UT and go there if you are accepted. However, Texas Tech really isn't too bad. Its what you make of it.

Question
If you are not a blonde snooty richAverageCommunications
If you are not a blonde snooty rich girl. then dont come here. if you do not like drama and sorority bitches then BE WARE. that is about 90 percent of the population here. im being serious, im not judgemental. infact i used to be platinum myself and like brand name clothing. but if you cant afford David Yurman and Louis Vuitton bags then your an outsider. oh and PS. lubbock texas is the ugliest town i have ever seen. it is COLD and smells like cow shit often. it floods because the people dont have a drainage system! and the only thing to do is get drunk. which btw its a dry county and you must drive far to get alcohol. but thats not a major point of my review.. just a minor detail! i am a sophomore and am switching schools ASAP. i really just want to save other people the trouble of comming here finding out everything ive said is TRUE and then having to switch like me. if you dont like men in tacky wranglers and boots. stay away from tech!

Question
The majority of the students at Texas TechQuite BrightJournalism
The majority of the students at Texas Tech are very friendly and nice, however there are a large number of students from a particular organization (I'll let you guess, but it's pretty obvious) who are very stuck-up. Aside from that, the campus is beautiful and the coursework is not so challenging (at least in the Mass Comm college) that you don't have a life. While there are not many things to DO in Lubbock, it's pretty easy to get friends together and do SOMETHING.
