This University is a system. It's a system designed to provide you with a service given that you pay them money for it. I'm a business student and in the top 7% of my class at the moment, but I'm really quite disappointed with the level of academia this school holds as a standard. A lot of the classes I've been taking are easier than stuff I did in high school. It's really sad to see that despite the lack of difficulty in a lot of the classes, the professors still give a lot of students breaks for doing bad in their class. You may think this is a good thing, but when you consider the fact that you're paying almost $20,000 a year to come to this school, you want that degree to have some teeth when you're out applying for jobs. No one wants a degree from a school that hands them out like candy.
The social aspects of this school are highly political. Fraternities and sororities rule the campus, so if you're not into the Greek thing you might as well expect a damper in your social life. The official leisure activity is getting drunk. That's it. If you hear of a party, a social gathering, or anything resembling the sort, expect alcohol. That's as creative as these Greek organizations get when it comes to doing things.
There are some friendly people around campus that you will find, but the more you encounter some of the people in your classes, you'll find that it's a very superficial type of friendly. It's the "friendly" that resembles cliques and immaturity that you'd find in high school, where you will be outcasted unless you can relate to them with things they have in common: mainly, how they didn't study for the tests or got drunk at parties.
The women are attractive, but a lot of them are snooty and washed blondes. A lot of them are rich. Some of the guys around campus are the same way.
The school in general does not know how to operate correctly. They make it a pain for you to get through with payments (and all the little scammed fees they through in), and then you find out they waste their money on things like a swimming pool or a sidewalk that's five feet from another sidewalk. It's pretty disgusting how they budget and spend income like it's unlimited. It really infuriated me, considering I actually have to take out loans to come here. College is really expensive, and when they spend money and charge for stupid things, you wonder why it's that way.
Housing is terrible. There is absolutely no room mate selection criteria anymore since they changed it to where you pick your specific room. If you don't like your room mate, you're pretty much out of luck as they give you attitude if you want to change your room. Dining services is even worse. The food is horrible (it may seem cool at first, trust me... you will change your mind) and incredibly EXPENSIVE. You have to pay extra fees for the maintenance and funding of the actual dining facilities in addition to paying premium for the food. The staff only does what takes the least effort. Really, they don't care. They have the money they're going to get from you so there's no incentive to do things better or even right.I'll just skip the other details and get to the bottom line. If you want the crazy drunken social experiences, go right ahead and come here. If you want to value your education, savor moments from college that may not involve hangovers, and find accomplishment and fulfillment with your degree plan, then do NOT come here. Don't make the mistake of finding this out for yourself and ignoring these aspects like I did. If you think this may bother you, it most likely will.
