I no longer attend TAMU but for theAverageEconomics
I no longer attend TAMU but for the year I did live in College Station I learned why the rest of the nation stereotyped Texans as close-minded rednecks. I thought the school was average. I fell for the propaganda but after a semester of constantly hearing rich, white, unemployed jerks belittle other cultures, and even just different opinions for that matter, I had to get the hell out. I know that not everyone that attends TAMU is what I just described, but the school is so overrated that its unnerving to listen to A&M alumni take credit for the "technological superiority" which people in my generation like to call modernization. There's not a division 1 school in this state that doesn't have the same hands-on technology as A&M. It's not a horrible school, but unless you are strictly agriculture oriented or you just enjoy acting like a Nazi, there are a thousand other schools that can fit your academic needs for much cheaper tuition. I currently attend another school in Texas, but I'm not here to advertise, I'm here to calm the hype about TAMU's "Grand ole tradition" which is just 50,000 people unwilling to undergo change. I thought that was what college was all about anyway.

Question
Going to Texas A&M has been one ofComputer Science
Going to Texas A&M has been one of the best decisions I have made. Yes there are conservatives, but yes there are liberals as well. The fact that you are in Texas and not located in austin makes you more prone to seeing conservatives, and if you didn't know that before you went to A&M, then you didn't research your college choice that well, which would be suprising since for most it is one of your biggest decisions in your life. Anywho, I really enjoyed the Computer Science dept and the business dept(my minor) I was highly involved in traditions and helped to fund them and put them on. I got more out of that then I could have even attempted to put in. People that put it down, never truly got into it... I know those folks, I worked with a lot of them. But if you don't like the traditions, that's your deal, they aren't for everyone, but obviously they are for a lot of folks. (since A&M still ranks in the top 5-6 in enrollment in the US) Being an Aggie grad in Texas is also a HUGE plus. A&M grads stick together about as good as any other grads in the US, so it's a nice way to open doors. In my IT group alone there are 60-70% Aggies. Of course, if you go outside of Texas, that goes down, but there are still plenty there. All in all, A&M is not for everyone, but I think it offers a great education and wonderful traditions for anyone who wants to open themselves to that.
