NYU is located in the best place inNot so brightPhilosophy
NYU is located in the best place in the world. You can't beat that. The academics are really good, though once in a while you can stumple on a lame class - thats probably true about every university.

Because its so big, NYU sucks when it comes to personal issues and red tape. There is a lot of beurocracy... When I didnt have internet when I just got to the dorms, the internet guy lied to me and said it will take months if not a year to set it up... eventually after looking around for the right person, I got my internet set in 3 days.Anyhow, there are millions things to do on campus, which is basically Washington Square. The location is amazing. It exposes you to real life, not isolates u in some bubble in the middle of nowhere.

Question
NYU has been somewhat of a mixed blessingQuite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
NYU has been somewhat of a mixed blessing for me. The education it provides is somewhat challenging and you must work for your grades. However, the atmosphere of school itself is something to be desired. The Stern School is overly competitive, with people doing whatever they can to get that elusive internship. You will find that your peers are no smarter than you are, and that they put on this arrogant facade for no reason other than to feel superior to their peers. Stern is very similar to high school. Cliques are rampant and once people make friends, there will be no room to make more. Of course, it is very expensive, but if all you care about is getting a good education and a good job, then by all means apply to NYU.

Question
NYU is like any other expensive private school.BrightPolitical Science
NYU is like any other expensive private school. Many of the kids come from very rich families and are very spoiled. Lots of people do drugs regularly, and a lot of the "partying" involves students getting drunk or high in their rooms with a friend or two. It's very hard to make friends here - most of the kids are from New Jersey or Long Island, and they already know lots of people from their high schools, and go home every weekend. People are very cliquish, and most people don't make new friends after the people they meet the first few weeks that live on their floor. What you wear and how you look is very important. A lot of people try to look WASPy, and lots of the girls dye their hair and starve themselves. The classes are okay, but aren't amazing for the money everyone pays. If you don't like associating with people poorer than you, or with people that didn't go to your high school or have parents that worked with your dad, and want to be sheltered, but still live in New York, NYU is good. If you are poorer, and get a scholarship to come here, don't. You will always feel bad compared to all the rich kids around you.
