NYU is a totalAnthropology
NYU is a total work hard/play hardER type of place. If you like to party and also want strong academics, this school is the quintessential choice.

Question
As a freshman I have to admit thatQuite BrightEnglish
As a freshman I have to admit that I was absolutely miserable. Issues of class (social not academic) seem to constitute the number one complaint on this site. Coming from a lower-class family and armed with financial aid I was shocked at the over-abundance of trust fund students. And its true that being a poor student in Manhattan is extremely difficult, especially when those around you dont have the same kinds of financial limitations. HOWEVER, if you can weather it out for the first year things inevitably improve, just like any other school. Yes, its overwhelming at first but the rewards are amazing if just in terms of independance. Many of my friends from high school graduated from their respective universities far more sheltered than students from NYU. As many people here have pointed out, the school doesnt hold your hand. This can be an enormous problem your freshman year and yes, i would recommend that you really think about what a large challenge you are taking on before you decide on this particular school. But the drawbacks people have mentioned (class, forced independance) really prepare you to deal with things you are going to encounter after graduation, like it or not. If you can get a little creative with money, tread water the first year and most importantly take it all with a good sense of humor you'll do just fine.

Question
Going to NYU can be an amazing experience.Quite BrightHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
Going to NYU can be an amazing experience. I feel a person has to be proactive (a go getter type) to best utilize his/her time at NYU, but almost everyone seems to find their niche at NYU. Personally, I love it here in every way. The dorms are terrific (Palladium where I live has a pool, and Water St. though far from campus is probably the most luxurious college dorm in America), the school has a bevy of extracurricular activities (I play intramural basketball), and the surrounding area is hard to top (I'm a southern belle, a true country girl who has fallen in love with Greenwich Village). My profs. and classmates as a whole are brilliant, well rounded, and very down to earth. True, NYU is not perfect, but what college is? And yes, there are a lot of trust fund kids here who do nothing but drink, use drugs, have sex etc, but again what school that charges $30,000+ doesn't have this? However, overall, I think just about anyone can get to immensely enjoy NYU.
