Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I absolutely hate it here.BrightCommunications
I absolutely hate it here. The atmosphere is incredibly depressing, the students are arrogant and sobby, the faculty is unhelpful and very self absorbed, and the academics are a joke. Teachers pile on the work but most of it is completely and utterly useless but still, it is VERY very hard to keep your head above water academically here.

It is even harder to survive socially here. This has nothing to do with how "well adjusted" or "social" you are as a person--it is hard for everyone to get by here. NYC, as wonderful of a city that it is, is a very hostile environment to go to school in. It is not the ideal place to attend college. Everyone is very distracted by new york and runs off in their own directions. It is impossible and i mean impossible to meet anyone at this school. You make friends with the people you live with, and everyone clings to each other which creates an insanely cliquish atmosphere. The only thing to do is go to clubs and there is a lot of drug use at this school-the students tend to be very very wealthy and stuck up beyond belief. NYU does not care about their students at all and make no effort to create a sociable and warm environment. Without any unifying factor here, everything just sucks and the social life suffers incredibly. I agree with the person below me: everything that the student body does (clubs, bars, etc) people do AFTER college. Why waste your college experience in a concrete jungle? go play on quads and go to a football game, a house party, feel like you are part of a COMMUNITY. Besides, you can party in the city properly when you are 21+..doing it here as a minor fucking sucks.

OH, and luxurious dorms?! HAHA that is a joke. sure we have our own bathrooms everything is incredibly filthy. there are mice, roaches, bed bugs, rats, you name it that infest the dorms. disgusting.

Yes, NYU is a brand name school. But are you really willing to sacrifice a real college experience for this shit school and waste hundreds of thousands of dollars here? i dont know what im doing here and i'm transferring as soon as i can.

Question
NYU has the most applicants of any schoolQuite BrightUndecided
NYU has the most applicants of any school in the entire US because of it"s reputation :location and entrance requirements. Graduating from NYU will look impressive on your resume and will open doors for you in certain fields such as media and entertainment where your GPA will not be heavily weighed. So if you're considering Tish, for example, the entrance requirements are not that hard ( weight is given to your "audition") and the coursework is easy. However there is no school spirit here no matter what division you are in. Everyone has a sense of the school not really caring about the students. It's a depressing atmosphere. Not what was expected. The administration and faculty are arrogant and condescending and don"t expect to graduate from NYU with a respectable GPA unless you can get by on one or two hours sleep each day. The coursework isn't hard but the volume of material they give you here makes it impossible for you to maintain a decent GPA. The school doesn't seem to care about that. So if you are willing to put the time and work into getting good grades consider going to another school because it's practically impossible to attain that here. You might leave here after having worked your ass off with a low GPA. But if you are willing to sacrifice a decent social life and academic record you can have the brand NYU on you for the rest of your life. Your decision. If you don't care and are only interested in the brand name, no matter what the quality, then choose NYU, as you might choose to wear a pair of sneakers that were too small and hurt to wear but you wore them anyway just to show off the brand. Be careful in what you choose. Sore feet heal but a poor academic record does not.

Question
When i started applying for colleges NYU wasQuite BrightCommunications
When i started applying for colleges NYU was at the top of my list. It was my dream school, I walked by it all the time when i was younger and i wanted to be part of the student body at NYU for as long as i can remember.

I applied early decision and I got accepted.
They only reason they accepted me because i won a couple essay contests for Scholastic and the New York times , I scored a 2200 on my SAT , I had a wonderful Portfolio , A very "unique" essay and of course I'm "Hispanic".

I was surprised i got accepted but quickly my eagerness and positive views were diminished when I started to get acquainted with the campus and professors.

First thing to take in mind is that their really isn't a social life at NYU. You have to be really independent to get , everyone is self consumed. HEY we're in New York , everyone is constantly busy and barely have time to stop and chit chat with strange by-passers. Hearing stories from the bald man and the deprived kid jumping stories onto the spikes. It saddened me. I knew why everyone wanted to do so.

It is overwhelming at times and i to thought the library was a perfect place to die. Not that im that type.

Usually i would get a few people stop and talk to me but i decided to not stay at the dorms. ( They are ratty and overpriced.) Luckily I had a family member with an apartment building close by. I was able to save money for a while.

NYU has terrible financial aid , which is why rich , arrogant , snotty , robotic , close-minded bags run the school.

There are many gay men in this school , the women are terrible and stuck-up.
I hated this school , its a brand.A waste...a death trap.
