NYU is not for the person looking forQuite BrightPsychology
NYU is not for the person looking for a typical college campus experience. It is going to college in NYC and living in Greenwich Village. It can be an amazing experience if city living is what you're looking for. If you want football games, greek life and school spirit - this is not the place for you.

I loved NYU - I transferred here after going to a rural campus university. It was heaven for me...I just loved living in downtown Manhattan. Loved having the whole city to explore....the culture, theater, indie movies, off-beat bars and clubs, restaurants, everything going on all day and night. What was really nice was being able to stay in the city after graduation and get a job without having to move home or regroup after college. The downside of NYU is that they really don't help you, you have to help yourself. Be active in getting what you want and pursuing professors or TA's for extra help if you need it. I kinda got screwed out of graduating on time cause I wasn't as on top of things as I should have been. But I really wasn't in a rush anyway. ;)

Question
Lets just clear a few things up andQuite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
Lets just clear a few things up and add some points.. No specific order.
- NYU is overrated and overpriced. It's just that simple.
- The education is a joke and may seem like there an essence but that's just because professors give so much busy work, you don't know wtf is going on except that you're miserable. The retention rate/transfer rate is pretty bad too.

- Stern is NOT #2.. So go update your statistics ladies and gents.
- Dealing with Stern's numerous layers of Hell and all the bull is NOT worth it. No one in the school is happy, half of the students there dress/act like they're going to their post grad job interviews and only a few students actually care to help you because everyone else is too self absorbed.

- You'll spend more nights in the library than you'll spend in your own bed and in turn your bed is a new spot to store books since you won't sleep anymore.

- On that note, I've noticed the only truly happy students are those found in Tisch...
- If you're looking to go to COLLEGE, don't go to NYU. Unless you're ready for a 9-5 job after HS, you're applying for a 4yr slap in the face reality check. Some people like it, some don't.

- Mon, Tues, Wed = Work your ass off and still not finish anything that you meant to finish/be miserable. Thurs = go binge at some cheap watering hole/fake being happy. Fri= do some more work and still somehow not finish. Sat = party again and hate yourself for doing it because you have so much work due on Monday and you'll be hungover Sunday..

- NYU is no longer a dream school and has one of the highest suicide and misery rates around... Has had for a while too! Just ask around, or check out the library which is now somewhat suicide proof from the tiles on the floors to the plastic surrounding the balconies.

- Sure NYU is rather open minded but the student body isn't as liberal as it's made out to be. Racial tensions, prejudices, and more are very alive on campus.

- Our greek life is the only way to be social ON CAMPUS and it's sketchy and half assed anyways.
- NYU does NOT have a good social scene or nice campus... NYC has a social scene which NYU students can choose to get involved in.

- I would say that most students become alcoholics or take up some other type of drug to help them cope with the miserable time they're covering up with fake smiles, designer clothing and other materialistic things.

- Half the students that went here don't get jobs out of school so don't get your hopes up. Employers are starting to catch onto the fact that where you graduate from no longer relates to how smart you are or how good of a worker you are, just how much you're willing to pay a school for an education you could have gotten somewhere else cheaper. He's saving himself the hassle and some money.

But yeah, check it out for yourself and don't let what people say good or bad sway your decision. I'm from NJ and I love the city, I'm just not fond of this school now that I've actually attended it. After this semester I'll be transferring out to UVa. I apologize for ranting and whatnot, but I hardly ever get the chance to and it was quite fun. One thing NYU IS good for.. Transferring.

Question
Bottom line: only the best survive at thisQuite Bright
Bottom line: only the best survive at this school; its survival of the fittest. The negative comments are people who simply couldn't take it. You have to be a specific kind of person to thrive here. You have to be driven, fiercely (and I mean FIERCELY) independent and self reliant. If you come to NYU you will not be a college student--you will be an adult with real responsibilities living in a very real world situation. NYU isn't college, it's pure, raw, amazing reality.

That's what I love about this school. There is sooo much to do in new york its amazing. The opportunities are absolutely endless--you name any internship or job you want and NYU can and will hook you up. Our library has over 5 million books, our business school is #2 in the nation. If you want to get ahead of everyone else and be at the top of your field after you graduate this is the place to go. The location IS worth the expense--don't listen to what anyone else says. Think about it. Even the kids at Yale, Harvard and Cornell don't have the opportunity to intern and work at top companies during the year. NYUers do.

There is so much culture here, its amazing. If you come here you will be living in the middle of the BEST city in the country, if not the world. I don't understand people who complain about it--I wouldnt want to be anywhere else. Sure, there are the unfriendly snobby disgustingly rich kids but what private university doesn't have them?

People who say that NYU doesn't have a social life are seriously out of their minds. We live in party central--downtown NYC. There are bars and clubs everywhere you look, all you need is a decent (even crappy) fake and you're good to go. Again, if you dream of quads and nature and football games and a prominent greek life you WILL NOT BE HAPPY HERE. But those who come here and love it are amazing. I love my friends and I would never want to partake in "typical" college experience. I love it here!

Don't read the negative comments. Come here, visit yourself. You will know as soon as you enter NYC if this school is for you or not.
