NYU is a complete ripoff. Not so brightEconomics
NYU is a complete ripoff. For the money you pay, the education you receive is bullshit. And you know why the tuition is largly so high, because of bad investment NYU made with its money in the 1970's. I mean, honestly, it is a joke, i have graduated in 08, and barely taken away anything from the 4 years there. Not to mention, the teachers rarely give you the benefit of the doubt in terms of grades, and considering how much you pay per class, that is the shame. Oh wait, did i mention almost everybody there is a very liberal, especially the teachers who basically attempt to indoctrinate you with their political views. And forget about the student body, its basically a bunch of homosexual people who finally are out of their parents sight and free to act as disgusting as they please. No offense to gay people, this is just how I feel. Luckly there is a greek community, although it is small it was fun. In retrospect i would have not gone to NYU, even though i wound up meeting some great friends.

It's not that great. I'm a sophomore, and I'm still thinking about transferring. People say that if you don't like it, you must not be tough, but that's not the case - I just don't like arrogant, uptight, frivolous, superficial people. The majority of the students seem like they just want to be fabulous. I think that the theatre design school is actually making me less creative, it's definitely making me like theatre less. If NYU was cheap, I'd be a lot more okay with it, but I was under the impression that when you pay $60,000 a year, you get an awesome and rewarding college experience. Not true. NYU is a rip-off.

Question
My major is Business and Political Economy atQuite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
My major is Business and Political Economy at Stern; it is new this year. The class for this program is only about 30 people, and we are to spend 3 semesters abroad together and take the same classes throughout the four years at NYU. It is a great program because we all receive individual attention and are part of an incredibly close group of students.

Some issues which I faced were the materialism of the people at NYU and in the city in general, difficulty finding people that were similar to me and the extreme liberal-mindedness of the majority of people here.

By materialism of students and NYC residents I mean one's constant obsession with brands and fashionability of one's outfit. In the end, I realized that everyone simply obsesses about their own outfits and no one cares about yours. So if you feel like your wallet cannot afford Marc Jacobs, or that you like something that you cannot find in Vogue, wear it without hesitation.

The tremendous dilemma of finding people that were like me strikes 99.9% of newly arriving students at NYU. Initially, it seems like John Sexton's (the university president's) preaching about the importance of diversity only hurts you (because "I just don't connect with ANYBODY"). However, the would be much worse at a small college where everyone is the same EXCEPT FOR YOU. Then, you really are doomed. At NYU, there are oceans of student organizations. Go to some of their meetings. Join some. And, if you are in hesitation over whether or not to join a club, don't. Find something about which you are passionate. If you decide to go to NYU, your key to success is to be independent in all respects. Believe that you can find happiness here if you search, and you will find it very soon.
