There are so many people here, but once you settle into the community and find your niche it doesn't seem like that big of a school. You can make a big school smaller, but you can't make a small school bigger.

Question
U of M is definitely one of theSuper BrilliantPhilosophy
U of M is definitely one of the better public universities in America. As an in-state student, I feel I am getting a high quality education at a bargain. I can also tell you that if you work hard and achieve a high GPA at this school, you WILL be taken seriously as an applicant at any school in the country. I have friends who have graduated from here and gone on to pursue graduate degrees at Princeton, Harvard, and Emory.

Question
I came for the in-state tuition.AverageAnthropology
I came for the in-state tuition. Academically, I felt like I was getting my needs met. The course work was fairly stimulating, it kept me busy and I felt like I learned quite a bit here. For that, it was ok.

But, the other students and the village of Ann Arbor itself left me with a terrible experience, one which, if I had to do it again, I would have gone further into debt to avoid by going to another University.

People here treat each other like they are disposable. I have always been used to having a smaller circle of friends but having close bonds with those friends. Coming here was a shock to the system as everyone I met was flakey, mean or just not leaving themselves open to actually making another connection with a fellow human being. Lots of masks and pretentiousness. Along that line, there were just so many people that played dumb (or were actually just dumb, I never really figured it out) in that nobody wanted to talk about anything interesting or engaging, just weed, drinking, hooking up blah blah blah.

This place is filled with mindless hedonists and I echo the comments of others that there are a lot of vapid rich people here driving around and getting wasted in their parents dime.I would truly avoid this University if you have the choice to. It's not worth the in-state tuition, certainly not out-of state tuition.
