I came into college thinking wow I go to uofm one of the top public schools in the nation. My freshman yr was a SHOCK!!! The experience @ uofm has had its up and downs. But to be honest if I had to do it over again I would have gone somewhere else. Most students here do not have very good people skills. For one most students I have met are very insecure about themselves and only one talk about their "parents" money and two their grades. I mean I pride myself on my grades but hello people it gets to be a little much sometimes. It’s funny because I had friends @ the rival school not to name any names but it was like night and day. The people there were always so friendly and more about finding the true character of a human being. Uofm to me is all about wannabes and the sad thing is I am still here, going into my sr. yr and I am unhappy and stressed. All I have to say is visit the school u r deciding on. I wish I did.

During my 5 years at U-M the entire administration of the school devoted inordinate amounts of time and money to the Affirmative Action case (which should, thankfully, be settled soon). Otherwise they just basically ignored me, which I was fine with. My advice is to get involved in a department with a small number of undergrads and make your own little university in the middle of this huge ass one. You're going to have to make your own friends (students and faculty) and your own opportunities 'cuz no one here really gives a damn about you (sad, but true).
