You name it. Whether its academic quality, research, athletics, social life, college town, or what have you, U-M is top notch. I don't think there is another school thats as well-rounded.

As with any large university, there are good things and bad. Don't let the dichotomy fool you, though - it is well worth your while.

Question
Well I have some time on my hands,Quite BrightPsychology
Well I have some time on my hands, and I want to say what I think about my University. Well, I am an Ann Arbor Kid. That means I grew up in Ann Arbor, went to Pioneer High School and that means that I am QUALIFIED to comment on Michigan unlike most of the out of staters/towners on this site.

Times have changed. That's for sure. This is not the Liberal, Hippie, Berkeleyesque Ann Arbor that it was in the 60's through the 90's. I'll be honest. There are a lot of stuck up, classless, fratty people here right now. I am not too happy about that but when I see that they are all a smart bunch of people it solidifies my confidence that Michigan has strength in its students in terms of academics.

Socially, there are a lot of things to do here. Ann Arbor is the greatest city in the world. I just wish Alums would stay around AFTER they graduate and help out Michigan the state and Ann Arbor the city. I don't like how so many east coast and west coast people come here, consume Michigan's resources and then leave.

Lastly, I think the academics here let me down a bit. I thought that I could use my creative process more openly in assignments and other things but I soon learned why frat guys and stuck up J.A.P.s were getting better grades than me. It is not because they are more intelligent, trust me. It is because they treat Michigan just like they treated High School. Busy work. Relay answers from lecture to notes, from notes to test. Very robotic. That is a let down to me. I argue and express and create in my work, something that at a large institution isn't always applauded. Ironically, this is Michigan we're talking about.Well, that is all I have to complain about. Michigan is a great school! GO BLUE, but remember, if you are thinking about applying from out of state or out of town, remember, this city was here before you were, it will be here when you leave... RESPECT THIS CITY and don't talk badly about things PERIOD, because it was YOUR choice to come here. Please, no one FROM Ann Arbor wants to hear you complain. And trust me, no one from Ann Arbor cares about you or what you think if you are complaining.
