This place is a haven for ultra-liberal fascists who will try to indoctrinate you. If you don't conform and become self-hating, your GPA will suffer greatly. Even if you do, they will use you as a poster boy or whipping post for every anti-gay, slave-holding, Indian killing, misogynistic, fat cat SOB that ever characterized a revisionist history book.
Besides, the degree is way overrated, as is their athletic program, as is everything else an alumn will brag to you about in the first 5 minutes you meet them. The basic student body are a bunch of mediocre, sheltered, self-righteous, plastic, approval starved snobs.
Save your parents' money or your own GI Bill and go to a place where you can meet real people, engage in open-minded discourse, recieve a functional education, and retain some sense of dignity. "Leaders and Best" - A load of crap!!!
However, I began to give the school a chance around Halloween. I got more involved, and stopped coming home as often. I have made some really amazing, talented friends and have met some very inspiring faculty members. One of the things that I have to tell out of staters- DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILY/PEERS. People will ask you "Why Michigan???" CONSTANTLY, but you must make an educated decision about how to spend your (or your parent's) $40,000. Yes, it is a waste of money if you are planning on becoming an art history major or psychology major. No, it is not an Ivy League school. But the classes are super competitive (especially in the sciences) and very motivating. 9 out of 10 of your peers are pre-med, and 99.9% are pre-health, so they know how to work to get into a good grad school. But remember, classes are big and the school is bigger. Do not go here if you are expecting "personal attention" in a science class. Come on, who wants to learn Organic Chemistry with 5 other people in the class (thats too much personal attention? Thats the equivalent to a professor spoon-feeding information to you. Rely on your own ability to grasp information and don't forget to ask for help when you need it. If you have drive, you will get farther in life. Just remember, Go Blue!
