The University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

I'm an engineering transfer student at UofM and to be honest, the only reason I came here was because this is the only school in Michigan with the program that I wanted. UofM has an elites attitude that I don't care for. I'm not impressed with the way the school presents the material either. It seems that there is no standard that the faculty has to follow. For instance, my friends and I all had the exact same thing on our homework. Some of us got 70% some got 95%. There's no doubt that all the professors are extremely intelligent. However, it's rare to find one that can teach. They have a kind of throw you into the deep end approach to teaching that isn't working out too well for me. I had an assignment which required an extensive knowledge of Matlab. I had never heard of Matlab before coming here. I was basically told to go and figure it out by myself. Why am I paying them to teach myself? Thinking back, I would have gone to a different school for undergrad then transferred to UofM for grad school. For your info, a typical class grade break down is as follows: homework 20%, class participation 5%, midterm 35%, final 40%. If you decide to go here good luck and I hope you make it.
