UMass isn't the worst school ever but ifQuite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
UMass isn't the worst school ever but if you have the opportunity to go somewhere better than I'd advise you do it - unless you want to major in Hospitality & Tourism Management or study agriculture, UMass isn't strong in much of anything else. As previous reviewers have said, there is definitely a lot of "theoretical" teaching and you can expect to feel like a number here pretty much all the time. Amherst as a town is boring and there is really nothing to do around here at all. I'd only advise you go here if you want to run a hotel, live in Mass and didn't get in anywhere else.

Question
Umass Amherst helped me in so many ways.English
Umass Amherst helped me in so many ways. Because it is a big college, you have to learn how to put yourself out there whether it be making friends or seeking out your professor for help or advice when in a 200+ class. The school taught me how to find my voice and speak up.

The professors in the English department were always nice and willing to spend time out of class to assist me. Senior year, I decided that I wanted to do an independent study focusing on the skills which I needed for my future career and asked an English professor to be my advisor. Although she had plenty on her plate, being a well respected professor in the English department and Commonwealth program, she agreed. I credit that independent study with getting me my job which I have today.

I really can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my time at Umass Amherst. I loved living in Central with all the "hippies." I found out that these kids weren't all about smoking pot but real social issues.Overall, I loved Umass Amherst and would go back in a heartbeat.

Question
The Electrical & Computer Engineering Program at UMassAverageElectrical Engineering
The Electrical & Computer Engineering Program at UMass Amherst was a miserable experience for me at first. I guess I was immature, but the competition was fierce and the department offered little help and it was not what I was expecting. By being left to sink or swim, I learned how to solve-problems, get resources, and find help on my own. The program facilitated the development of these skills and it left me with iron determination and an incredible work ethic. Now I am very grateful because these are exactly the skills that are necessary to be a successful engineer. Do not expect and easy ride. I rated this program based upon the way that I think an engineering department should be.
