I love UMASS.BrightPolitical Science
I love UMASS. It was not my first choice school but was driven to go here because of the cost. It has been a great experience. The people here are fun and friendly. Most people work very hard to maintain solid grades. The weekends are a blast and there is always something to do. The classes have been engaging. I had 3 small classes and 3 large ones. Everyone that I know loves it and always wants to come back. The major downside is that the campus is ugly and very large. Get used to walking :)

Question
I am just completing my first semester atQuite BrightJournalism
I am just completing my first semester at UMass Amherst.
Frankly, I was attracted to UMass Amherst because of it's low cost and reputable social scene. I have always gotten good grades all throughout high school and I could have gone to a number of other schools but could not afford it.

Umass Amherst is great for any type of person. No matter who you are, with the 25,000 people on campus, you are bound to find some close friends and a great learning experience. There are so many interesting classes to take and the professors are so passionate about what they teach.

A great thing about being a freshman at UMass is that you can choose to be in a dormitory that is themed by your interest or major, thereby giving you an automatic connection with the people you are living with. Making friends is easy, even for a shy person like me.

Class work and home work is pretty hard at UMass Amherst but most classes design their curriculum so that you can do 8 out of 10 assignments and still have a chance at 100%, granted you do perfectly on 80% of your assignments. If your printer is dead, or you deleted your paper, or something horrible like that happens, you don't have to freak out about it demolishing your grade in the class. One criticism: beware of how politically charged this school is. This school is not for people without a knowledge of politics. If you are one of those people who don't think politics are important or aren't smart enough to understand them, don't come here. The professors will try to brainwash you into their ultra-liberal point of view!

Question
I'm graduating this semester and I'm glad thatQuite BrightSociology
I'm graduating this semester and I'm glad that I'll be done with this school. A couple of things you should know. The school has gone downhill in some areas. There will be a gig price increase sometime in the near future, I'm sure of it. The original advisors in my program all left(Hmmmm?)and the new one that came in is terrible. She lies when you ask her stuff, never gets back with you and tends to be condescending and self-absorbed when you talk wit her. Please, if you get the same treatment then you should complain to the Dept.Chair Don Tomaskovic-Devey. Watch out if your major is in Sociology. This dept had definitely gone downhill since I started. Anyone who was any good left or has retired or is about to retire. I don't know what the problem is but there is definitely one. If you really want to major in sociology go to Rutgers or Chapel Hill. Do not go to UMASS! Anyways, on the good side, the food is good, the area is OK, I don't party so I don't know anything about that. Classes are large but I liked it like that. I picked most of my professors so I had a pretty good experience with receiving a quality educational experience. This past year I have noticed that some of the professors are apathetic and don't want to be involved in anything outside of their current workload. This is bad if you need a mentor, research experience or anything else like that. I don't like to feel like I'm a burden, so this was a complete turnoff. I would say if you can you should try to get into a better school or go to this one and do your best so that you can move up to a better grad school when you are done. Whatever you do my advice is do well and make sure you are happy with the school you go to. It cost too much money to be unhappy with your experiences wherever you go. Good luck.
