The business department is very challenging and you MUST stQuite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
The business department is very challenging and you MUST stay on your toes if you want A's in your classes. If you are a business student, be prepared to take on a lot of homework and study time while some of the students in the other majors are out having a blast on their weekend. I guess you have to pay the cost if you want to be the boss. Anyhow, they feed us like royalty here. I'm telling you, I eat better meals here than I ever did at home and I NEVER regret eating too much because UMass is pretty big and I have to walk to all of my classes, therefore my calorie intake stays at an acceptable level and I never gain weight. You can find so many types of people here. If you don't like a certain group, move on to the next, it's that easy and it's that simple. The hockey games are so much fun and the town of Amherst is quite lovely. They have a mall nearby, a Wal-Mart, Target, etc..It's so peaceful and relaxing. Depending on the class your taking, your class can range from being HUGE to being very small. For instance, my Accounting class has around 450 students, you can imagine how hard it is for the teacher to have ALL of the student's attention. MY Calculus class has around 300 students. In opposition, my Econ 348 class has no more than 20 students. Class size depends on many factors. As for the dorms, I live in Northeast, traditional New England dorms that are made out of brick. The facility is old but the rooms are quite nice and the people here tend to be more focused, reserved, and laid-back, which is my style. Also, before coming here, be fully aware that it DOES get very cold. For those of you who are not from New England, make sure you have your winter gear ready; YOU WILL NEEED IT. When Spring hits, this place is beautiful.I do believe that some of the buildings need more color and reinovation but that's okay. You can do whatever you want here. I really enjoy being here. The people are quite interesting and very truthful. There are some good-looking guys too, which is nice. Make sure you choose your friends wisely, because that can usually make or break your experience. You certainly won't find stuck-up, snoobish prudes like you find at a lot of private schools, we know how to keep it real here.

My experience at UMassQuite BrightElectrical Engineering
My experience at UMass Amherst could not be better. I love the Amherst area. My courses are challenging and I have learned a lot. I know I will be prepared when I get out in the working world or if I go to grad school. This school is the best kept secret around.

Question
I transferred here last semester.Quite BrightPsychology
I transferred here last semester. I love Umass, though it doesn't always love me back-I've found that I often have to fight to get into classes, find academic resources, secure housing etc., financial aid etc. You really have to be your own advocate here. I have no regrets about coming here though- this college has taught me some important task-managing skills. The college itself: as a large university, it offers a myriad of clubs and student activities. The social life is great here-I have a blast in the Outing club and am about to start Capoeira, a Brazillian dance/martial art. We even have Quidditch here. The surrounding town Amherst is cozy little place with lots of hole-in-wall pubs and small, independent businesses. I love it (though be aware it's no New York City-I doubt there are any dance clubs). Academically, ratemyprofessors.com is a must. This is a research-based institution, and a huge one, so in order to get that fun, quirky professor who loves his students, you need to research your potential class schedule in advance. Some general advice about UMass: avoid Sylvan residential area if possible-the suite-style living makes it hard to make friends with people on your floor. However, it's not the end in the world if you're a transfer student and end up there (most do); my suggestion is join clubs to make friends. I really recommend UMOC, the outdoors club, I have a blast with them. If you're going to get a job at a dining hall pick Worchester..and take advantage of everything UMass has to offer, because there is so much going on. Frankly, I'm in love with the school. The campus is beautiful, the atmosphere is bohemian (although beware the North face clones ;)) and the people are diverse (some of my friends are from places like Columbia, Russia and Peru). Come here if you want the quintessential New England college experience. If you have a carpe diem attitude, you will love it here.Feel free to email me with questions; I know I wish I had had a UMass contact before I got here.
