Dilapidated classrooms.Quite Bright
Dilapidated classrooms.
Deplorable food.
Horrendous roommates.
Overpriced textbooks.
Just so, so bad.
I can't tell you the number of classes I had in rooms with desks that did not work or the lighting was so dim you couldn't see what you were writing on. Or rooms with projection services that constantly failed.

The food was so sad - remember "pasta-bilities"? Ugh.
Horrendous, downright EVIL roommates. Simply horrible people.
Give me a break on the $130 text book. It's a BOOK. Screwing over the students one book at a time - nice! This place is insane. Don't go.

Question
I am currently an "undeclared" student (on paper)Quite BrightUndecided
I am currently an "undeclared" student (on paper) following the engineering tract at this school, just finished my first semester and currently working through the second. This university is great socially, if all you care about is parties, alcohol and drugs then virtually anywhere on campus is your game. If you value your education, do good to stay away from here. There may be a few renowned department programs but this place is not worth your time. YOU ARE A NUMBER, that's all. You will never get any personable teaching and there is nothing to university's use of money and regard to students. They are currently "downsizing" while trying to bring in even more students, so housing is a crunch. The Pioneer Valley is great, taking classes at other schools is a great option too, but this school from strictly an academic point of view is dismal. Good deal, but good luck.

Question
UMass Amherst is an amazing school.Animal Studies
UMass Amherst is an amazing school. I loved it and I miss every minute of my experience. It took some time for me to get used to the school when I first arrived as a freshman. I quickly made friends and enjoy the best years of my life. Because of it's size, the school is what you make it. Many students drop out the first year because they don't know how to balance their social lives and schoolwork. No one is there to hold your hand so you have to know when to ask for help. You learn quickly that you need to be your own ambassador which is an important life skill to have anyway. There are plenty of places to turn to and people to help you. Once you get passed the initial phase, UMass Amherst has everything you can ask for: challenging classes, friendly people, a beautiful campus, a huge range of research opportunities, social activities, the list goes on. The resources are expansive and most of the professors are more than happy to help. The campus is always full of activities and opportunities. The one mistake I made was I didn't plan for my career after school and didn't get enough experience (my own fault). I did participate in the commonwealth college which helped me stay focused and challenged. I'm now attending graduate school and I know my experience at UMass Amherst will help me succeed. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
