The dining commons serve grade-D crap.BrightEnglish
The dining commons serve grade-D crap. Health services/mental health services are an epic fail. Every office that is supposed to 'help' you is a complete nightmare and waste of your time.

UMass is a giant, uncaring beaurocracy. You are a number. You have to jump through hoops for the simplest things- for example, they force you to live on campus and be on a meal plan for your first 2 years here, and even if you have a valid reason for not being able to do that, you have to go through a long, irritating, and frankly insulting process to get out of it. All the clubs/extracurriculars I have encountered are like high school cliques- but worse. Decisions are not made based on talent or skill, but are a popularity contest. I have changed my major several times, because each department I have encountered was a JOKE. Most of the teachers are arrogant and think everything they say is profound, and in many cases, if you don't conform to the teacher's way of thinking/opinions, say goodbye to your good grade. Yes, objectively, there are exceptions. There is the occasional decent teacher, the few people you stumble across who are good people. But for the most part, this school is a crushing hellhole. I wish with all my heart that I had chosen to go to college somewhere else.

Question
I love UMass.AverageCommunications
I love UMass. I do not drink so I do not adhere to the stereotype the University can have. I have found great friends here and love most of my classes. The place is beautiful, and it's great to feel part of a community of college students. Don't expect anyone to hold your hand though. Faculty have a lot of students and while they try to be friendly, sometimes you just have to figure things out for yourself and be independent.

Question
I was a Legal Studies major which doesBrightOther
I was a Legal Studies major which does nothing for you unless you want to be prepared for law/ grad school. It is a good program with excellent professors in the department. The Gen Ed requirement courses are dumb and offer no value to your educational experience. The facilities have gotten better since I graduated but I have long felt that a state university with a smaller population and a more relaxed attitude would have benefited me more.
