Do you really want to go here? ThisBrightLinguistics
Do you really want to go here? This is what my HS guidance dept. asked me. I wanted a low tuition , and to be in a university (for whatever reasons I don't remember).

Listen, this is an example of a party school. People are drinking, smoking weed, occasionally raping women (Back went I went there. There was this part of the campus ominously dubbed 'the Rape Trail'.)

The professors are almost all good and most of my classes in the liberal arts and humanities were taught by professors. If you are interested in Linguistics like I was, you should read about the dark history of the establishment of the 'discipline', which you will find to be grossly pseudo scientific, it was founded by the odious Bertrand Russell, with help from Zelig Harris, and Noam Chomsky, who thinks the mind is some sort of computer, which it is not.

Umass can be a violent place, one night I was walking in Southwest, and a male big guy was trailing me in a very threatening manner, probably had some beers under his belt to. I was not too pleased about this. Campus is large, and the student body, on the whole is not too bright, but there are a few exceptions. Overall, don't come here. I transferred out with a 3.95 and got into a top 15 university. You could do the same by going to Salem State or community college, without the gloomy boring, and threatening environment. Do read all the review you can at SR, until you can see places for what they really are.

Engineering --> Sociology. Engineering just wasn't at all how I thought it would be to be honest. Not something I'd want to do for a living. Sociology is much better, great professors and classes so far. And relatively laid back if you are just concerned about GPA; as long as you work at least somewhat hard, you'll get a 3.0 or higher.
