I am an international student who did notQuite BrightBiology
I am an international student who did not get into NYU, so I had to attend UMass. Overall, I think it is a decent experience, though I definitely have some problems. Firstly, I found it IMPOSSIBLE to keep friendships here since the student body is huge and so is the campus. Then, I do not feel challenged in any of my classes except for maybe the Honors ones - and even these aren't half as hard as I expected. Students seem apathetic and not really interested in striving to get an A. Also, I found the town extremely boring, especially since I don't drive a car.

Question
I sent this email to the chancellor.Quite BrightPreLaw and Legal
I sent this email to the chancellor... it should explain. We are just a $ sign at this school.. The only good faculty are the teachers...Hey, why is it that we are building all of these huge expensive buildings when there is absolutely no parking on campus? It costs hundreds of dollars for a parking pass to ONE lot, and a DOLLAR for an hour of metered parking? I spend 20 minutes driving around looking for meters everyday? The town of Amherst doesn't even charge a dollar per hour.. Most universities have free parking, or at least way cheaper passes that can be used almost anywhere on campus. This school is so money hungry. Not to mention, the tickets are totally expensive. I appealed a ticket that I got for parking in a wide open staff lot for 5 minutes, telling them that I couldn't afford it, and I got a cold replying stating that they don't care.. AND we pay $700 for one meal a day PER SEMESTER. I wish I had known all of this beforehand, because I would never have chosen this place. I'll do everything in my power to infer people.

I only selected NO for different University because I don't want to not be put down.
You can be doing nothing wrong and be completely innocent and get caught in the middle of a mob literally and figuratively. It's just the attitudes of the people here. It's basically like playing hockey where it doesn't matter if you try and avoid trouble you might still get hit. No one will help you afterwards either. Not the adults/faculty/ students. It's everything every bad stereotype about Massachusetts says except reality.

This goes for guys and girls. If you like being a girl who just gets it in and lives for that, and nothing else this is a good place. If you're a guy who lives for getting it in and nothing else this is a good place.

It's hard to get an education here or be productive because the environment is very negative towards being productive only seductive and effortless. If you're not trying and you cheat, and get drunk on a test night at UMASS you're a hero. If you try and do your best and stay out of trouble you're trying.

If you are not willing to be a macho tough guy and get punched in the face, knocked out, have your academics turn to C's or worse, get drunk off your face consistently and on school nights, then this isn't the right place either (you have to be willing or you won't have any fun here)

If you're looking for a city like academic environment I think you should go to UCONN. If you're looking for a suburb/country academic environment UNH. If you're looking for an effortless party environment, with hyper aggressive males and always willing females, and no commitment to legit relationships that extends to everything on every part of campus this is the right place.

If you sense any mild humor in this review, it's only while walking out the door. While you're here it's very cold.

The kinds of girls here are pretty bodies with often really low standards of being friendly or accepting (they are usually not, just sometimes.. They are really friendly if it's someone they care about, and really unfriendly if they don't like you)The guys here only care about being macho and tough guys and like working out and taking the easy way out in class and doing the least work possible.
