Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I'll be honest.Accounting
I'll be honest. When I attended GSU I was concerned that because it isn't a well known school, I might be getting a subpar education. But that turned out to be totally wrong! I was in the accounting program and upon graduation was able to fairly easily pass the CPA exam in the following year. Almost everything on the exam was covered in my GSU accounting courses. I have gone on to get an MBA and have had a long and successful career thanks to the foundation set at Governors State!

Question
The Computer Science program at GSU is notComputer Science
The Computer Science program at GSU is not that good. Many of the course(s) are outdated or don't match there own job description. For example the software engineering course I took was not software engineering at all, it was a programming course. When I went to Depaul their software engineering taught software engineering principals and at the end of the course you had and e-commerce site. The advance Java course I took did not even introduce XML processing, it re-hashed material from the first Java course. I mention that because when I interviewed for a job at GSU as an information technologist one of the interviewer(s) asked me about XML processing and if GSU was teaching that now.

Professor(s) need to get out of the class room and learn what other schools and programs are doing now, not back in the 90s. Find out what the market place wants now. Offer more cloud,Business intelligence(BI), e-commerce and r-programming and statistical programming. Don't let students into advance courses unless they took the intro course first. Advance Courses should truly reflect real world practices such as using JUNIT to testing your Java program. xml, json processing, etc, etc...GSU student going out into the real world should be confident there prepared them to get job in their major.

Question
The communications program is a joke.Quite BrightCommunications
The communications program is a joke. There's a reason graduates cannot find jobs in the industry after graduating from GSU--employer's have never heard of this university. Many folks in the program don't know how to write because the curriculum is of Romper Room quality! Run away fast. I wish I had read these reviews before enrolling. The negative reviews are spot-on. Worthless degree!
