The school is pretty average.Archaeology
The school is pretty average. There's nothing too great about it, but nothing really bad either. God help you if you ever need something from one of the faculty at the school. They are helpfull when you can reach them, but it's like pulling teeth just to get someone to give you an appointment or to talk to you. I don't mean the teachers, but other faculty are either on a never-ending lunch break, had a family emergency, or just another day off.

Housing at the school is awful. The actualy housing itself is pretty nice. The apartments are great actually (compared to other university housing I've seen). However the housing staff is horrible when dealing with problems (not the RA's, who were great last year when I lived on campus, but the "higher up" staff). They don't have enough apartments, so as a junior last year, I was still living in a dorm. It is a much better value to get an off campus apartment or rent a duplex... just start looking early because a lot of people are living in them after hurricane Ivan. Really, don't pay attention to the school's housing website... it IS cheaper to live off campus (as long as you have roommates). Like I said, the actual housing on campus isn't too bad. It's a bit small, but you get private bathrooms. The beds are REALLY BAD. Even with a memory foam pad on mine last year, it still had a prison-cell feel to it. I swear it gave me back and neck problems all last year. I only lived in Argo Hall, I don't know if that's true for the other halls as well. Another thing is the windows in Argo Hall don't open. So you never get fresh air, plus, that's a fire hazard.

The campus is in a fairly good area, but it could be more safe. At night I've noticed that there are often sidewalks were the lights are either burnt out, or there are none. Esspecally near the computer lab... and that's an area with a lot of bushes near the side walks.

And speaking of bushes... for god's sake... trim the friggin bushes already! I know the campus is going for the whole "out in the woods" feel... but the NEVER trim the bushes around the campus. Certain areas of the campus look like they've been abandoned for years and the forest is starting to take over again, or something like that. It's just too much. It's not safe (because it creates a lot of shadowy places for creeps to hide), and this is not a campus that is immune to crime. Last year there was a student who was assulted by someone (I don't even think it was another student) in her dorm room, and a number of years ago another girl was murdered by a man, while she was walking to her car... he was hiding in bushes and trees that are close to the parking lots! Plus, it just looks sloppy. Finally, there is NOTHING to do in Pensacola. I grew up in Florida, thus the beach gets a little old after a while. The beaches aren't really that great either. The bars here REALLY SUCK! Campus parties don't really happen. And if your not into drinking or the beach, then your going to be even more bored. There is just nothing going on in Pensacola.

Question
I graduated from the Okaloosa Walton College andAverageElectrical Engineering
I graduated from the Okaloosa Walton College and then transferred to UWF only to find that OWC is a better in many ways. In the middle of one semester I had two professors just quit and I was unable to complete the course work with a qualified professor. Instead I was provided with a fourth rate professor that could not teach the material. As a result the entire class was given passing grades. I believe there are some students that don’t know the material and were passed anyway. The material being taught is another issue. Only certain classes are offered in certain semesters. It is possible to wait an entire year to take just one course and then another year to just graduate. The drive to make the Engineering program ABET accredited was first over everything including the students. The shortage of professors is going uncontested and continues to be a problem; the university does not want to hire more professors. The reliability of the course work that is provided to prepare students for future course work is extremely poor. It is almost as if each and every course is different and none of the courses rely on each other. The text books picked and used for most courses are also extremely poor. These textbooks have invalid references and terrible spelling. The motive I believe for this fatal mistake is the incentives (money) universities get for picking the published book. I mean why should the university care how good the text book is when they get lots of money for picking that specific textbook. This university is neither worth my time nor my money and if I was not almost done with my degree I would go to another university.
