The University of West Florida is nothing like the rest of the 11 public universities in Florida. Not to say this is a bad thing, but the university itself is very unique compared to the rest.

UWF is a small school. Only 10,000 students, about 20-30% is on campus at once. The school being small goes both ways. Its great since you get to know everyone and you grow closer to people, but it sucks since you see the same exact people every day.

Being a small school puts it into NCAA Division II and only has few sports that are NCAA. No football, basketball or baseball. All this really means is that there isn't much athletic spirit here. Nobody even cares about the soccer games sadly.

The resources here are very limited. There isn't much of a student union here for the Commons area, an area that everything is that, tries to cram everything all into one place. It puts the student union, market place, school store, post office and what not all into one.

While that is convenient, that's pretty much the only main area your offered in the school. There is all the academic resources you need like the Writing Lab, Math Lab, Library, but not really any stores or anything special.

Food sucks, except Quiznos, Starbucks and Terra Juice. There are places to eat in Pensacola, but no ride means your stuck here eating the meal plan they force you to have.

The Greek system here is probably better than a lot of the bigger schools since there isn't any hazing here. The school is so small to where if it happened, greek affairs would know. In most frats or sororities, the numbers are limited which means you really do get close to the people in your greek life.

There are only 10 greek organizations here and there is only 1 house which is not located on campus. Yes, there is no greek road at all but we have greek dorms on campus where the organizations can live together.

Teachers here are good. No complains really. You come here, you learn, but that's about it honestly.

UWF was meant for the locals, nothing more. From my experience, if I never went greek, this place would have been the most boring place on earth. Pensacola sucks, and being in a place where you see the same people everyday sucks. I say this because if you don't get along with anyone in the beginning or plan on to, nothing changes and nothing gets better.Go greek or don't go at all. Seriously, if you want an awesome college experience without being dependent on the greek system, check out UCF or FSU. Otherwise, good luck.

Question
There was no place for it in thisAverageAccounting
There was no place for it in this survey but let me say loud and clear that THE ADMINISTRATION IS THE WORST I'VE EVER COME IN CONTACT WITH...ARROGANT AND UNCARING. Now with that out of my system, my professors were helpful and concerned about my success. The social life doesn't even register on the scale when compared to UF or FSU which I discovered on visits with close friends. Did I mention the arrogance of the administrators? Sorry, that is a pervasive memory of times at UWF. The other memory is one of 'we own you' approach instead of a 'we're glad you're here or how can we help you attain your educational goals.' I had a 3.2 gpa but transferred to Troy University. Wow, the attitude toward the students was night and day. Troy made me feel welcome and like a paying customer, which I am, right?

Question
Like any school, the only thing UWF canComputer Science
Like any school, the only thing UWF can do for its students is give them the opportunity to succeed. Receiving an education is more about the individual than the institution. If you truly want to be educated you will receive a first class education regardless of the school you attend. OK, I will get off my soapbox. UWF was a great fit for me. When I was deciding what school to attend many factors where important to me but none so much as COST. I do not come from a wealthy family and I had to pay for my own tuition. UWF was incredibly affordable. I completed my education without getting any long term loans. Of course I had to work while I went to school but I can tell you that it was well worth it. Whether or not UWF is the right fit for you is really dependent upon what you are looking for. If you are looking to party UWF is not the school for you. I only remember a few big parties while I was a student. Although, with the new dorms and more students living on campus maybe that has changed. If you are looking for a first rate education at an affordable price in a nice quiet setting then UWF should be on your list. Forget about everyone's opinions (including mine) and just look at the facts.

UWF was selected as one of the 100 best college buys in America by Institutional Research and Evaluation Gainesville, GA (http://uwf.edu/enrserv/48.htm)

UWF was selected as one of the best universities in the southeast by Princeton Review.

UWF's Business school is AACSB accredited. This is the same accreditation as Harvard and one the less than 15% of schools in the world have achieved. Not to shabby!
