Pensacola Christian College

A lot of people tend to think that PCC is the cheapest option. One thing to consider is attending a college and getting an ROTC scholarship. The Air Force will pay for all four years of tuition in exchange for 3-6 credit hours of ROTC training. In addition, they will offer a four year job as a 2nd Lieutenant Officer right out of college. They encourage you to get majors in engineering, computer science, mathematics, and other high dollar degrees. Free tuition plus a guaranteed job? Not a bad deal.

PCC is not the best deal in town. Not horrible, but not the best.And a hello to my fellow PCCBoard.com peeps!!

I graduated from PCC with a degree in pre-law. Based on the education and excellence of faculty I found myself in the top 10% of my private Law School class. However, although the education is amazing for the tuition price the enviornment does not allow for somone who wants freedom. The school is highly regulated on verge on militaristic. Their is no appeal process or due process to hear or voice complaints or suggestions, there is not a student paper, and any attempts to participate in such activities are met with expulsion based on labeling you a dissident. I suggest that anyone who attends keep your head down, stay out of trouble, get your degree and move on. The education is a great deal for the price you pay if you are willing to give up 75% of your freedoms for four years.

My experience at PCC was not an overall positive one. While the college does offer quality academics in some majors, others are staffed with recent graduates who have no real world experience. It's also very affordable, but one also needs to consider the old but true cliché that "you get what you pay for." And the college's administration is extremely closed-minded to things that nurture college students, such as the ability to express individuality and free speech without facing serious repercussions for even hinting at something negative towards administration.

In short, life at PCC becomes an extension of your childhood.
I'll grant that others haven't been through the very negative ordeal I experienced firsthand with PCC's administration, and most can't understand that a "Christian" administration would even act that way. My experience is a unique one.

Still, I don't hate the college, and I thank God that I experienced what I did because I'm a stronger person now for having gone through it. It changed me from being timid and allowing myself to be walked on emotionally by others. I finally take a stand for what I believe in, something I never had to do at PCC.

And while I still cannot recommend the college, I would still suggest that if you are interested in the school--don't just dismiss so many negative reviews of the college here as "internet rumor".

Also, check for opinions on pccboard.com and read the archives of the PCC Student Handbooks on http://pensacolachristiancollege.com/ --while there are still many unwritten rules that PCC doesn't publish in the Handbook, it will give you a good idea of what you're in for. Just one look at the section on what types of Music are not allowed is something I would like to have known before I attended. If you're an avid listener to CCM--if you find such music spiritually uplifting and encouraging--and you still decide to attend PCC, be prepared to spend FOUR LONG YEARS without CCM because it's not permitted there.

In other words, don't go to the school blindly. Visit the college beforehand and don't be afraid to ask questions and observe carefully how people answer. If you sense any doublespeak or that people just aren't being genuine, that should be an immediate red flag to you. Also, call the college in advance and ask for a copy of the Student Handbook. They'll try to send you a copy of the College Catalog instead, but insist that you need a copy of the official PCC Student Handbook. And when they tell you that they can't do that, ask them why.

There are other Christian colleges and universities that offer a liberal arts degree besides PCC. And in spite of PCC's propagandish slander of secular colleges, you can get a quality education there and you could possibly even become a stronger Christian because you would actually have to take a stand for Christ by being identified as a Christian. You could go through four years at PCC and never once have to defend your faith or your biblical views.Keep an open mind, research the college, educate yourself, listen to the advice and wisdom of those you respect, and put a lot of thought and prayer into it, and then make an informed decision about where you want to go to college.
