I have mixed feelings about Yale.AverageUndecided
I have mixed feelings about Yale. The campus is beautiful and there are some awesome people, but there are definitely plenty of arrogant and sheltered students as well. Being from the "inner city," it was shocking to see just how sheltered and socially ignorant many students are. The majority of the student body seems down to earth, and many are, but there are some that have no concept of the real world or any type of culture besides high culture.

One great thing about Yale is that my ethnic group does not self segregate to the same extent as at other schools. Overall, this place is integrated. At the end of the day, however, most groups of true friends are not very diverse, even if they are superficially (athletes and a cappella groups, especially, have multicultural cliques).

The classes are good, but the shopping period isn't all it's cracked up to be. Most departments are solid, and it seems like I am the only student on campus who hasn't enjoyed the benefits of grade inflation.

New Haven is an alright city, with a lot to offer considering its size. Many students have no interest in it, and erroneously equate the "ghetto neighborhoods" surrounding us with New Haven, when in fact New Haven is much more than the quarter mile radius around Phelps Gate. Overall most of New Haven's best restaurants and attractions are close to campus, making Yale a bubble of privilege completely insulated from the rest of the city.

I do suggest coming here, despite my judgements and rants. My issues with the students are the result of the educational and economic inequalities in this country, and any person from a humble background like myself would have the same issues at any selective college. Maybe one of my civic minded classmates will change that when he or she is President.

Question
Yale is incredible academically.Quite BrightEconomics
Yale is incredible academically. It offered opportunities I would not have gotten elsewhere. Faculty is top-notch and accessible. Students are smart but socially in-ept for the most part. Parties were so-so. Most people spent their weekends studying it seemed. But if you put some effort into having a good time here, it can be done.

Question
Coming to Yale was the worst decision ofAverageBiology
Coming to Yale was the worst decision of my life. Choosing this loathing, rat hole of a place over Brown and Stanford makes me want to go and overdose on mescaline. Over 30 percent of the students here are gay, and were talking about out of the closet now- there are atleast another 10-20 percent who dream of fudge packing. The education is descent, but the teachers are violent and evil. They'll threaten to go after you for questioning them, and then when you take it to the next step, you are in trouble. This union is more like a mafia; Tony Soprano meets Albert Eihnstein meets Elton John. If you don't understand what I'm saying, then come here and find out for yourself. Don't wander off campus though- you might get mugged in the surrounding ghetto.
